I've always had a way with words.
I got my start at Penguin Books (UK), working on marketing campaigns for the world’s bestselling authors. Since publishing marketing budgets are notoriously low, this meant that I became a strategist, media planner, and creative, all in one.
Since then, I’ve written for the worlds of beauty, sports, fashion, homeware, real estate, tech, gaming, and more. Here are some of the things that I’ve learned:
Good writers are really just impressionists: we get inside your head, understand what makes you tick, and then shape our message accordingly
A strong strategy is the backbone of a great idea, but a great idea should never be retrofitted to a strategy
Above all else, be clear
Copy and design should never exist in a vacuum
Make it shorter
If your brand or agency needs a writer who can get stuck in and make the words sing, I’d love to hear from you. Drop me a line at words@clairepurcell.com, on 07961997595 if you’re in the UK, or 917-547-1091 if you’re in the US. I spend the majority of my time in London.
